- Rapid7 Analysis: NetScaler intrusions chaining CVE-2026-88771 and CVE-2026-88779
Source: Rapid7 Cybersecurity Blog | Published: 2026-10-19T15:11:57+00:00 | Score: 32.0Overview In early October 2026, Rapid7 analysts investigated a compromise of a Citrix NetScaler ADC appliance. The appliance was running an affected 14.1 build and was exposed to active exploitation targeting NetScaler authentication and SAML deployments. The intrusion achieved root code execution, deployed multiple persistence mechanisms, installed PHP web shells, created outbound command-and-control and internal tunnelling capabilities, performed targeted reconnaissance of DNS, LDAP/Active Directory, management services and VMware vCenter infrastructure, and exfiltrated NetScaler configuration and key material. The activity overlaps with public reporting on the WHIPSHOT/SLAPSHOT NetScaler campaign. However, this case provides additional detail on the operational lifecycle, including repeated post-reboot execution through the crash-handling workflow, HA-aware persistence, a dedicated Go reconnaissance tool, a separate FreeBSD proxy agent, and a staged collection pipeline. - Patch Tuesday – October 2026
Source: Rapid7 Cybersecurity Blog | Published: 2026-10-13T21:40:27+00:00 | Score: 24.707Microsoft is publishing 1,413 own-product vulnerabilities on October 2026 Patch Tuesday , including 1,102 vulnerabilities in Windows. Anyone who enjoyed last month’s record-setting Patch Tuesday will love the October 2026 edition, because it’s much bigger still. As Rapid7 has noted over the course of 2026, there is every reason to suppose that vulnerability volumes will continue to rise. Microsoft is aware of exploitation in the wild for just one of the vulnerabilities published today, as well as public disclosure for two others. Windows Shell: zero-day security feature bypass The Windows Shell is Microsoft’s term for the GUI interaction logic for the entire OS provided by explorer.exe and associated libraries and APIs, and for the second time this year , the Windows Shell is the site of an exploited-in-the-wild zero-day vulnerability. Today’s specimen is CVE-2026-96951 . Once again, the immediate prize for an attacker is a Mark of the Web (MOTW) bypass. What this means is that Windows
- Authentication Bypass, Remote Code Execution, and Database Read in Eptura Archibus (FIXED)
Source: Rapid7 Cybersecurity Blog | Published: 2026-10-19T15:57:43+00:00 | Score: 24.523Overview While performing continuous red teaming exercises through Rapid7’s Vector Command service, Rapid7 discovered three new vulnerabilities in Eptura Archibus . A legacy API endpoint could be exploited to bypass authentication and run various functions without authentication ( CVSS: 8.6 High ). The most serious functions allow for full database read ( CVSS: 8.5 High ) and an insecure file upload ( CVSS: 9.6 Critical ). The insecure file upload leads to remote code execution. Product description Archibus helps organizations administer and manage their physical buildings, equipment, and real estate from a single central location. Users can track assets, maintenance work orders, real estate lease information, and desk or room reservations. According to Eptura , in 2023 over 16,000 companies and 40% of the Fortune 500 used Archibus. Impact A malicious actor with network access to the server via HTTP can read secrets and passwords out of the database. They can also run code to execute

- CVE-2026-102764: Critical BeyondTrust Remote Support Authentication Bypass Exploited in the Wild
Source: Rapid7 Cybersecurity Blog | Published: 2026-10-19T14:34:04+00:00 | Score: 20.981Overview On October 15, 2026, BeyondTrust disclosed a critical authentication bypass in Remote Support (RS) , its platform for remotely troubleshooting and administering endpoints. Tracked as CVE-2026-102764 and assigned a CVSSv4 score of 9.3 , the vulnerability allows unauthenticated remote attackers to perform file operations on an affected appliance without user interaction. Versions 26.2.3 and earlier are affected unless the BT26-05-RS patch has been applied. BeyondTrust has confirmed that exploitation in the wild has already occurred prior to disclosure. Its October 16 report dates the two known Remote Support compromises to August 29, 2026: one BeyondTrust-hosted instance and one self-hosted appliance. BeyondTrust discovered and contained the hosted compromise on September 28; Mandiant shared corroborating findings from the self-hosted investigation on September 30. On October 16, 2026, CVE-2026-102764 was added to the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency's (CISA
